Poetry Sharing

Here is a poem from a new connection on Google Plus.  I'm always happy to share new finds and help promote authors/artists/poets I find interesting.

The poet's name is +Zach Knox and the poem is called, "Codeine and Too Many Nights Alone".  Enjoy.

You can read the poem here:

Also tonight, I found a GREAT new blog that I want to share with you.  She is a fantastic writer and also loves to bake pastries.  What's better than that?

You can read Amy Glamos' blog here:

A Star Trek Love Poem, for Jack

My beloved Jack, thank you for being in my life.
I'll always love you.
You were my soulmate.

A STAR TREK LOVE POEM, FOR JACK

You are my Kirk
You keep me grounded when I want to be reckless
You take the lead fearlessly when I am unsure
Your courage inspires me

You are my Spock
You analyze the facts when I passionately rush in
Your logic is like a beacon in the dark when I am overwrought with emotions

You are my Bones
When I am sick
Whether in body, mind, or spirit
Your touch is a healing balm that makes me well again

You are my Sulu
Your wise judgment and gentle guidance
Has led me to safety in difficult times
I can always trust in you

You are my Scotty
When you kiss me, hold me, touch me...
My engine purrs
And my warp drive engages

Sometimes I think
That our love is like the Kobiashi Maru
Everyone says it's impossible
Yet we always find a way to make it work

You are my Enterprise
My beloved companion and partner in life
Taking me places I never thought I'd go
Traveling through the storms of life
in the safety of your shields

Like the Captain for his ship and crew
There isn't anything I wouldn't do
For You

Today I Rest: An Ode to the Weekend

TODAY I REST

Today I rest
I won't get dressed
I'm wearing my robe all day

No dishes to clean
No floor to sweep
No dogs needing out to play

No food to cook
I'm reading a book
and lying in my bed

So leave me alone
I'm relaxing at home

That's all that needs to be said

Dammit Jack: A Poem of Love and Frustration

DAMMIT JACK

Dammit Jack
I miss you
You've spoiled me for any other man
You
Yes you, stubborn and difficult you
I say this with tender affection
After all, I’m the hardheaded PITA
What a pair
You and I
What a pair indeed

Dammit Jack
I love you
I'll always love you
I've always loved you
You
Only you
No one else can compare
Believe me, I've tried
You are the Gold Standard
And all the others
Never even came close
But that’s okay
Because I only want you
You
No more, no less

Dammit Jack
I want you
You
Here next to me
Beside me on the sofa
Cuddled up next to me in bed
I want to see your eyes
Hear your voice
Feel your touch
Your arms around me
Feel your kiss
Your lips
On my lips

Dammit Jack
I need you
You
Now
Here
In this moment
And the next
And the next

Dammit Jack...

2019 UPDATE: RIP JACK. I'll love you forever.

I'm a Published Poet!

I totally need this clock!
#writing #author #published #poetry #poems #poet
@writing @poetry

Today, I received two emails telling me that Yahoo! had accepted BOTH of the poems I submitted for publication!  I am SO happy!  It's a huge motivator to keep writing.  Not only am I officially published, I am earning money for every visit to the site!  I'm posting the links to both of my published poems and I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE it if you'd take the time to click on them and read them.  Both are short and won't take much of your time.

"The Earth's Lament" is about the pain and suffering of war, as experienced by the earth.  I wrote this poem a few weeks ago after visiting several battlefields in Virginia to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.  You can read it here:  CLICK HERE TO READ THE EARTH'S LAMENT

"The Alchemist of Love" is about creating something out of nothing.  It's about being careful what you wish for.  Sometimes you can create something you THINK you want, but all it does is bring you pain and heartache later.  You can read it here:  CLICK HERE TO READ THE ALCHEMIST OF LOVE

Thank you all for your time, love, and support!

A Poem Instead of a Poem; NaPoWriMo Day Five

This is a poem
instead of a poem
because I can't find the words I want to say
So this is the poem
instead of a poem
that I leave you with today

I'm writing of nothing
because I've said nothing
I delete everything that I type
So this is the poem
instead of a poem
that I leave you with tonight.

The End.

Cat Hair; NaPoWriMo Day Four

CAT HAIR

On my pillow
On my bed
On my clothes
On my head

Signs that cats
Reign supreme

"Clean it off?"
YOU'RE INSANE!

The Affair; NaPoWriMo Day Two

THE AFFAIR

One un-played message
One missed call
Whatever you have said
I'm sure says it all

Don't know if I should should listen
Or let it go un-played
It breaks my heart to hear your voice
No matter what you say

I'm sure it's some apology
Asking if I'm still mad
Either way I'm finished
This affair just makes me sad

Of course I'll always love you
We shared some special times
Our lives go back through decades
Forever intertwined

So now I'll call my voice mail
The great mystery I will reveal
I'll listen to your stolen words
As you whisper how you feel

Just like the love I'm feeling
This poem has no end
I dial the voicemail number
And with a tear I press send

ODE TO WINE, NaPoWriMo, Day One

ODE TO WINE
by Tammy Petry

I sit
exhausted
propped on pillows
sipping red wine
from a large blue glass
by the bare bulb of my lamp

The air around me is cold
but I edge deeper
into the layers
of quilts and blankets
that remind me of times
and of loved ones passed

My feet are warmed
by the large orange tabby
who never leaves my side

As I savor
the crisp tangy wine
I wait
for that magical moment
when my skin
flashes hot
and I can feel my pulse
throbbing in my fingertips

(thump thump thump)

I am pleasantly warmed
from head to toe
and everywhere in between
and am finally able
to close
my
eyes
and release
the thoughts and worries of the day

I allow sleep
to gently come over me

Just as The Morrigan
takes the newly departed from the battlefield
so I succumb to Dionysis' embrace
and allow myself to be carried off
like a child
like warrior
into my sleep.
